Making his first career start at Marysville Raceway, Lucas Ashe had a good showing on an extremely tricky track as he worked his way forward to earn a sixth place finish during the Sherm and Loree Toller Memorial.
“It felt good to get back to racing, and check out a new track,” Lucas Ashe said. “It was our first race with Harley Van Dyke, and I was really happy with how things went.”
An extremely frigid Northern California night greeted competitors on the season opening event, and Ashe would get his season underway by timing the SALC Inc./Lucas Oil/NAAKE Suspension No. 33 entry in 10th fastest in qualifying time trials.
Moving on to his heat race, the Cottonwood, CA pilot would finish in the third spot, which would place him in the 10th starting position for the 25-lap feature event. As the night moved on, the track would continue to get tricky as ruts would develop and make things interesting for the winged sprint cars.
From his fifth row starting position, Ashe would find a nice line to keep him out of harms way as he slowly worked his way forward through the fray. Getting more comfortable lap after lap, Ashe would battle past Cody Hodgson to take over the sixth spot late in the race.
Giving chase to Kenny Allen in the final laps for a bid at the fifth spot, Ashe would not quite get to him as he brought his night to a close in the sixth spot.
“I really want to thank everyone who supports our race team and makes this all possible,” Ashe added. “I am really excited for this season ahead, and can’t wait to get up to Chico, CA in two weeks.”
Ashe is also currently in another battle. As a finalist in Champion’s Search For A Champion, he needs your vote daily to land a sponsorship. Please click over to http://sfac.championautoparts.com and do so.
